Theorist

Todorov: Theory of Narrative structure.

Equilibrium-disequlibrium-equilibrium

This theory doesnt doesnt particularly work with or apply to music videos.

Andrew Goodwin:
"music videos are simply an extension of the lyrics"
"images add new layers of meaning to the words of the song"

Roles

Each member of our group plays an important role in the actual music video and also into the production part.

Waqar Nawaz plays B.O.B in the music video but he also plays his part in using the camera by recording and using the camera and his camera skills.

I also am involved in some parts of the music video in acting as being the music producer in the video, i also have used the camera and used my camera skills to record and shoot the music video, i also had to organise what props would be in the music video such as the microphone and the dj decks and many other things, the link shows what props were in the music video http://aqibma2jca.blogspot.com/2010/11/props-used-in-music-videos.html.

Asha Akbar has also used the camera and helped record the music video, she also sorted out the costumes and what the artists would be wearing from head wear to footwear, she will also be involved in the music video.

Genre Theory

John Fiske- 'Any one programme will bear the main characteristics of its genre, but is likely to include some from others: ascribing it to one genre or another involves deciding which set of characteristics.
My song sits both inbetween Hip Hop and Grime, but i personally think that my song relates more to the grime because its based in more the uk, and the lyrics are more about life whilst hiphop is more about money drugs etc.

Richard Maltby and Ian Craven- the success of hollywood is reliant on the combination of predictable elements with variation.

Auters- A group of film makers that were considered to be particularly influential and artistic.
Edward Buscombe- felt that iconography was the best way to acheive generic definitions.

Rick Altman- Genre theory persumes that viewers pre-read texts. views become passive voyeurs. Genres are therefore restrictive, Doesnt acknowledge or allow for the hybrid- the blending of genres.

record label company research

mood board of existing album covers

To gain understanding of the types of different artist who are similar to our artist Giggs, other rap and grime artists who have incorporated blends of hip hop or grime into their music, we have put a mood board together of existing album covers. By this we can see themes and continuing trends that will be beneficial when we put are our own promotional package together.

Genre

A key part of our project is the focus on genre of our music video. What will be the main factor of our project is the knowledge of codes and conventions of existing media products from the same genre(hip-hop/grime) as my group has chosen. We havent just been asked to consider the codes and conventions but we have been asked to challenge them. To understand these conventions i will analyse existing music videos of the same genre.

Target Audience

An important part of our research and planning is to look at the target audience and analyse it. To find out about our audiences attitude to music videos and different types of genres in general, we will produce a questionnaire for people to fill in and let us know their views. In the questionnaire we will ask our audience what they like to see in grime/hip-hop music video and what they like to get out of music videos. The target audience for this genre of music is typical for teenagers and young adults we will ask this demographics of people.

About US

We are Pistol Whipped Productionz and we are best described as an internet production entertainment company, founded by Media Moguls; Asha Akbar, Aqib Malik, and Waqar Nawaz. It all started in a media lesson with the production of a music video and has advanced to the popularity of over 13,000,000 upload views and this figure rises rapidly on a daily basis.

Pistol-whipping is the act of using a handgun as a blunt weapon, wielding it as if it were a club or blackjack. Our Aim is to metaphorically Pistol Whip all the competitors in our genre, and become the number one production entertainment company.

Review Of Skills

Last year, the pre-production went well because i had done a lot of research about hip-hop music magazines and what conventions are used. I also learnt how things such as photoshop and digital cameras are used.

When i first came across with photoshop i had no clue what it was, and how to work it, but now i can use it very well and know how to use a lot of the tools. I also developed photography skills as i had never really come across using and expensive camera such as the pendax kdc series camera which is used for photography but now i am used to using the camera and i can now use it quite well.

Also last year we watched the films London To Brighton and Shifty this showed us the genre of British realism and through this the skills we learnt was research and analysis of the genre, we also learned the techniques and learnt how to apply them such as digital technology by using them to take pictures or to record our short films.

So the things that went well/ the strengths during the project was that i learnt how to use the cameras well how to use photoshop and edit pictures and create effects, also i learnt various photoshop and camera work skills, also the research i done for the magazine was good as i got all the information i needed to know for what has to be in my music magazine and the information needed to be put in. I also learnt the right mise en scene and what clothes the model should be wearing and what the picture should look like.
